Sustainability
1. Commitment to 1% for the Planet:
As proud members of 1% for the Planet, we pledge 1% of our revenue to support environmental causes, contributing to long-term solutions that protect and restore the Earth.
2. Verified by Trusted Marketplaces:
We are recognised by leading sustainable marketplaces like Canopey and The Revivas, where our products carry Canopey Kitemark as a testament to our ethical practices and transparency.
3. Ethical Manufacturing and Sustainable Partnerships:
Our socks and underwear are produced by manufacturers committed to sustainability. Both partners integrate eco-friendly practices into their operations:
- Our underwear manufacturer employs energy-efficient machinery and is dedicated to reducing water consumption in their dyeing processes. They also focus on minimising waste, recycling materials wherever possible.
- Our other manufacturing partner has embraced renewable energy, sourcing 100% of their electricity from renewable sources. They are constantly innovating with eco-friendly production techniques, further reducing their carbon footprint.
For our hemp clothing, we work with a women-led small atelier in India, ensuring our garments are made with care and responsibility. The atelier shares our passion for hemp’s sustainable potential and follows ethical labour practices.
4. Sustainable Materials:
All of our materials are OEKO-TEX certified, ensuring they are free from harmful chemicals and dyes. We prioritise environmentally friendly materials:
- Hemp: We use our own yarn made from hemp grown in Lithuania. Hemp is one of the most sustainable fibres, requiring minimal water and no pesticides. It improves soil health and absorbs significantly more CO2 than trees, making it crucial for carbon reduction.
- TENCEL™ Lyocell: Made from responsibly managed forests, TENCEL™ Lyocell is biodegradable and produced in a closed-loop process that recycles water and solvents, offering superior comfort while being gentle on the planet.
5. Measurable Goals and Innovation:
At Set Me Free, we hold ourselves accountable. By 2025, we aim to reduce our carbon footprint by 30%, primarily through optimising production processes and exploring renewable energy for our operations. We are also researching alternative materials such as agricultural waste-based fibres to expand our sustainable offerings.
6. Packaging and Carbon Footprint Reduction:
We reduce waste by using recyclable and biodegradable packaging across all our products. By sourcing materials responsibly and optimising our supply chain, we are committed to lowering our carbon footprint at every stage of production.
7. Social Responsibility:
We are dedicated to fair wages and safe working conditions across our supply chain, partnering with ateliers and manufacturers who share these values. Transparency and traceability are core to our approach, ensuring we know exactly where and how each product is made.
